Oaktree's Impact on Inter Milan: Stability On and Off the Field
From financial backing to key contract renewals, the American fund lays the foundation for Inter Milan's long-term success
Oaktree has provided new stability to Inter Milan? The answer is yes.
This is evident in the financial statements, where it shows that the American fund has purchased part of the bond that needs to be repaid by 2027—and aims to do so further in the coming months.
However, the true impact can be seen on the pitch. While there haven't been significant expenditures in football terms, with an already highly competitive squad bolstered by the arrivals of Taremi and Zielinski, along with investments in Martinez and Palacios, several critical matters were addressed.
The renewal of Bisseck's contract is just the tip of the iceberg among the many extensions secured by the American-led management.
Two renewals, in particular, highlight Oaktree's intentions: Lautaro Martinez and Nicolò Barella.
Over the months, both players were hesitant, waiting to understand what the post-Zhang era might look like. However, after receiving reassurances about the project and the commitment to invest, both reached agreements that were mutually satisfying.
The new contracts under American management:
- Simone Inzaghi: €6.5 million (£5.4 million) annually until 2026, total gross cost: €17 million (£14.2 million)
- Lautaro Martinez: €9 million (£7.5 million) annually until 2029, total gross cost: €83.5 million (£69.7 million)

- Denzel Dumfries: €4 million (£3.3 million) annually until 2028, total gross cost: €20.8 million (£16 million)
Total gross cost: €183.6 million (£153 million)
