Marko Arnautovic played 90 minutes in the match between Austria and Slovenia: here's the interview he gave to Sportmediaset, an Italian broadcast.
Marko Arnautovic played 90 minutes in the match between Austria and Slovenia. The Inter Milan striker spoke to Sportmediaset via Fcinter1908.it after the game:
"With the national team, I come and play, at Inter Milan I play less because there are great strikers. It’s a difficult thing for me because for my whole life I’ve always played from the start, but I understand the coach’s decisions.
I do everything I can at Inter Milan to help Lautaro, Thuram, Taremi, and Correa. We’re five, we try to help each other, I want the best for Inter Milan, even though right now it’s not the best for me, but Inter Milan is everything, it’s my team, and I do everything to help my team."
About the Scudetto and Champions League
"I believe we can do well because we know how strong we are, even though other teams are strong too: if you look at the standings, there are 5 teams with 25 points. Our goal is the Scudetto, but we also want to go as far as possible in the Champions League. We’re Inter Milan, we want a lot."
About the missed penalty against Young Boys
"I couldn’t explain that situation, for me it was a disaster because I missed it. Of course, I wanted to score the 1-0. I don’t play much, then the coach gives you the opportunity and you want to do well... Ok, it’s just a penalty, but even though we won, it was still my fault.
I criticize myself a lot, I never criticize others, I always look at myself first. It was 2-3 difficult days for me, then I had an infection and couldn’t see out of my left eye, it was serious. Now I’m back, I’m fine, and I hope to play now at Inter Milan. I’ll do everything I can to help the team and keep going."
The fans who complain about him
"The fans who complain? Would I make the choice to come back to Inter Milan again? You look at those fans, but the real fans at Inter Milan love me. Since I left, I’ve always followed the team.
I always say I didn’t win the treble (Triplete), but I’m proud of that moment. Some fans say I’m old and always injured, but that’s not true.
It’s not like I want to go on the pitch and get hurt, it’s something that depends on my body. Throughout my career, I’ve always played from the start, now I play the last minutes, and it’s different for my body. But even if I play 2 minutes, I give everything."
