In an interview granted to the Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Hakan Calhanoglu, captain of the national team coached by Montella and Inter Milan midfielder, also spoke about his future in view of his final years of his career. Here are his words:
"The 45-day retreat period we experienced during the 2024 European Championships in Germany was, in my opinion, one of the most important turning points for our team.
We united and became a family. At this retreat, the bond of friendship between us turned into a bond of brotherhood. This bond continues to strengthen in terms of the game as well" he told to newspaper Milliyet.
"The most important factor that allows us to understand each other is the idea of how we can take the team to the top.
Montella is affectionate with his behaviour both on and off the pitch, he has strong communication skills, he knows what he wants.
He is a coach who knows how to speak very well and motivate his players. Although it is difficult to predict what awaits us in the future, I can clearly say that we will be in very good hands.
We have millions of people dragging us, we are a country that loves football and our young talents are increasing every year: Arda Güler, Kenan Yildiz, Orkun Kökçü, Semih Kilçsoy, Bertug Yildirim are the best proof of that.
Our future will always be bright if we give these young people the opportunity to show their talent and shine".
"Returning to Turkey in the future? Personally, I have always aimed to do my best. I don't know where my football life will end, but my goal is to finish my career in the best possible way. I hope this idea becomes reality".
