Topalovic was once again a key player for his national team

Among the many positives that have come to Inter Milan from the international break, there are also the performances of Luka Topalovic. 

The Slovenian midfielder was once again a key player for his national team, literally leading them to the elite round of the U19 European Championship qualifiers. 

A performance of a true leader from the 2006-born player, who, so far, at Inter Milan has shown only glimpses of his talent. 

A star of Slovenian football

Arriving in Milan this summer from Domzale, Topalovic brought with him high expectations: already a star at his club, where he was a key figure in the first team, he was widely regarded as one of the most interesting young talents on the international scene. 

This was also due to his performances with the youth national teams: after being part of the U19 set-up as a younger player, since August, Luka has become the cornerstone of the team under coach Anton Zlogar: captain, number 10, free to roam in all areas of the pitch. 

His stats are top-level: 6 goals in the last 7 matches, including a brace yesterday in the 2-1 win against Kazakhstan, which secured qualification to the next round.

His impact at Inter Milan

With Inter Milan’s shirt, however, Topalovic has not yet been as dominant. This is completely normal for an 18-year-old playing his first season away from home: new country, new language, new teammates, new style of football.

Zanchetta immediately set him up as a central midfielder in a three-man midfield, focusing a lot on the defensive phase and tactical aspects: necessary work to turn Luka into a "real" player, ready to face more competitive environments than Slovenia. Now, after an adjustment period with 13 appearances and 2 goals between Serie A and the Youth League, but also many ups and downs, Topalovic is expected to step up and lead Inter Milan as well: the club’s management believes strongly in his potential, and his journey in Milan is just beginning.
