The following explanation was given as to why Giuseppe Marotta won the award:

"For a path of constant growth that has led to him reaching the pinnacle in national sports management and beyond, all the while never forgetting the human values, respect and elegance that drive the leadership style he adopts in every position he holds".

“I'd like to thank the jury for this award. It’s an honour for me to receive it because Liedholm was an important figure in my life.

When I was twelve years old, Nils was the coach of Varese. I lived 150 metres from the stadium where the team used to train. As soon as I got back from school, I would enter the stadium and follow training from up close.

Those were the moments where I learnt my first lessons from Liedholm. His human nature allowed him to manage the group in the best way possible, beyond technical and tactical aspects. I found Liedholm’s approach inspirational. He was quiet and calm. ”
