Sommer: "We must put the same intensity, courage and energy to make a great season"

Inter Milan prepare to play the UEFA Champions League 2024/25 with a match on Wednesday 18 September at 21:00 (20:00 local time) against Manchester City. 

On the eve of the match the press conference of the Nerazzurri goalkeeper Yann Sommer:

How do you feel in view of tomorrow? Are you more agitated or impatient?

"I can’t wait to play a game like tomorrow. 

We want to start this Champions League in the best way possible, we have prepared ourselves, worked hard and prepared ourselves to face this kind of challenge. Looking forward to the field".

What are your feelings after this season start?
 

"We played some matches in which we could have done better as the last match against Monza, but we always work to improve. 

It will be a long season, as was the last. It’s normal that in the first few games everything doesn’t go as we want but I’m convinced that we are a great team and we can’t wait to start this tournament in the best way".

How did you prepare for Haaland?

"Everyone asks me about him, he’s one of the best strikers around, but we find a strong team, City has excellent players with good offensive qualities and, yes, Halland is powerful, fast, but we have to prepare ourselves to make a great performance. 

We have excellent qualities and we want to show our idea of the game on the pitch, be focused and play the best game".

You weren’t there two years ago, but after the Scudetto you feel stronger at European level?

"It’s hard to think about the 2023 final, I wasn’t there. 

Last year we won the Scudetto and had a fantastic season but this is another year with new challenges we do not expect gifts from opponents. 

We must put the same intensity, heart, courage and energy to make a great season in Serie A and in the Champions League. 

We work for this every day but we know that we have to put even more strength and energy than last year to get the results we want."

 

What impressed you more than the final? Is there anything special about the preparation of this match?

"Two years ago I was impressed, last year I came to Inter milan and I saw many qualities of the team: the whole team that defends the goal as if there were a child to protect. 

I saw the courage and ability of everyone to give their all to win, power, energy, the right attitude on the field...this is Inter Milan".

 

Have you studied Haaland in particular?

"I always prepare myself as well as possible for all matches. 

City has many quality players, I have played against Haaland several times, I will try to be a challenge for him tomorrow. 

Tomorrow we don’t have to stop only Haaland but Manchester City, it’s different. 

We have a lot of qualities, we defend well and we know how to keep our distance. We are a great team and we have to show all the qualities that allowed us to make a great year last year".
