Dalmat:"If Inter Milan play at their level they will win this match"
The former Nerazzurri midfielder spoke about the derby scheduled for today evening at San Siro
The former Nerazzurri midfielder, Stephane Dalmat, spoke about the derby scheduled for today evening at San Siro.
Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan, after two draws with a very different flavour (disappointing in the Serie A against Monza, convincing in the Champions League against Manchester City), will face Milan tonight in the first season derby.
The Nerazzurri, who have won 6 consecutive matches in the last 6 derby, are favourites but the pitfalls are always around the corner in such games.
Stephane Dalmat, a former French midfielder, spoke to the Italian website Fcinter1908.it microphones.
Inter Milan are back from the 0-0 draw against Manchester City. How do you judge the performance of the Inzaghi boys?
"We saw an Inter Milan that showed a lot of strength and great character.
It wasn’t easy, but tactically they defended well and had some chances to make the Manchester City defence difficult, but they missed the right chance to be dangerous. In the end I’m happy, it’s a very good and well deserved draw, which is good for both teams".
Will Inter Milan have to choose between the Serie A and the Champions League?
Or can it be competitive in both competitions?
"Inter Milan have the good line-up and quality, first of all, to win the second consecutive championship.
In the Champions League they can play it, then we also have to see if they face teams like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich... In my opinion, they can have the goal of going minimum between the last four, in the semifinals: after that everything can happen".
Barella was the best on the pitch against Manchester City. As a former midfielder, do you consider him to be at the top of the world?
"Barella has reached a very high level, he is already among the best midfielders in the world.
The only thing he needs to be a great player is to score more goals and assist more: he has the potential to do it, if he does this step will become one like Gerrard or Lampard".
Today is a derby day. Milan is in trouble and Fonseca risks being sacked: can this be a risk for Inter Milan?
"I'm not sure: Milan is not well, but it’s something that should not concern the players of Inter Milan.
I don’t know if the Milan players are 100% with Fonseca, but the derby will be as always a special match.
What I know is that if Inter Milan play at their level they will win this match".
Who will be the decisive man of the derby?
“I hope Lautaro Martinez, who must go back to scoring goals: it’s an opportunity for him to really start the season and show that he is a great player. Forza Inter!”.
